E3D V6 or Nextruder: Fitting a 0.6 mm Nozzle to a Prusa
This page identifies which nozzle mount your Prusa uses and which of three parts - a Nextruder-native nozzle, a V6-thread nozzle plus the Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter, or a V6-thread nozzle on its own - actually fits a 0.6 mm nozzle to it.
The short answer
Whether a 0.6 mm nozzle fits your Prusa depends on which nozzle mount your printer uses, not on what the box says. Prusa printers split into two groups. The MK3, MK3S, MK3S+, MK3.5, MK3.5S, the MK2-series machines and the MINI and MINI+ use the E3D V6 thread, so a V6-thread 0.6 mm nozzle screws straight in. The MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.9S, the CORE One family and the XL family use Prusa's own Nextruder mount instead, and a standard E3D V6 nozzle - including one you already own from another printer - does not thread into a Nextruder without an adapter. On a Nextruder printer you get a 0.6 mm nozzle one of two ways: a Nextruder-native nozzle, or a V6-thread nozzle plus the separate Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter. This page covers fit only; for what a 0.6 mm nozzle changes about layer height once it's mounted, see Nozzle Diameter and Layer Height: Your Usable Range.
| Prusa printer family | Nozzle mount | What that means for a 0.6 mm nozzle |
|---|---|---|
| MK3, MK3S, MK3S+, MK3.5, MK3.5S, MK2-series and earlier, MINI and MINI+ | E3D V6 thread (native) | A V6-thread 0.6 mm nozzle fits directly. No adapter needed. |
| MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.9S, CORE One family, XL family | Nextruder | A standard V6 nozzle needs the Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter. A Nextruder-native nozzle fits directly instead. |
MK3-series, MK2-series and MINI/MINI+: direct fit
Prusa's own compatibility article states it plainly: 'The E3D (or E3D compatible) V6 nozzles fit into the MK3, MK3S, MK3S+, as well as MK2-series and previous, and the MINI/+ hotend.' Prusa's separate nozzle-replacement guide adds two more machines to this group: 'The Original Prusa MK2.5/S, MK3/S/+, and MK3.5/S use the E3D V6 Hotend' - so the MK3.5 and MK3.5S take the same V6-thread nozzle as the rest of this list. The Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter's own compatible-printer listing confirms this from the other side: it places MK3.5 and MK3.5S under printers it is not compatible with, grouped alongside MK3S, MK3, MK2.5S and MINI - V6-native machines that don't have a Nextruder to adapt in the first place. A 0.6 mm V6-thread nozzle threads directly into the hotend already on these printers - no adapter, nothing else to buy. That holds for any material Prusa names for the V6 thread: brass, hardened steel, Nozzle X (a nickel-plated, WS2-coated hardened tool-steel nozzle Prusa names for abrasive filament and elevated temperatures), or Olsson Ruby, which the same article names as V6-compatible. If you're replacing a nozzle because it looks worn rather than to change diameter, Is My Nozzle Worn Out? covers how to check before you order. If a specific filament is driving the material choice rather than the diameter, Choose Filament by What the Part Must Survive covers that side of it.
MK4, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.9S, CORE One and XL: the adapter question
These printers use the Nextruder, and Prusa says so directly on the MK4S's own specification table: 'Extruder: Nextruder, Direct Drive, E3D V6 compatible (with adapter).' That parenthetical is the whole answer - a V6 nozzle needs the adapter on any Nextruder-equipped machine, whether it's new or a spare you already own from an older Prusa. The Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter's own listing names the full family it currently fits: MK4, XL, MK3.9, MK4S, MK3.9S, CORE One/+, CORE One L, XL+, CORE One+ (Gen 2) and CORE One L+. If your printer isn't on that list, that can mean one of two things: it may be too new to have been added yet, or, like the MK3.5 and MK3.5S, it may not use the Nextruder at all and doesn't need this adapter in the first place. Either way, check your printer's own specification page for its Extruder row rather than assume it behaves like an older sibling.
| Product | Thread | What's in the box | Anything else needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prusa Nozzle brass CHT - 0.6 mm (Nextruder-native) | Nextruder | Nozzle and heatbreak combined into one all-metal part | Nothing - direct fit |
| Nextruder Hotend brass High Flow - 0.60 mm | Nextruder | Full hotend: nozzle, heaterblock, 40 W heater set, thermistor | Nothing to fit, but this replaces the whole hotend, not just the nozzle |
| V6-thread nozzle (Nozzle V6, Nozzle X E3D V6, hardened steel, etc.) - 0.6 mm | E3D V6 | Standalone nozzle only | Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter - nozzle is not included with it |
Which SKU to actually order
If you want a 0.6 mm nozzle and nothing else, order a Nextruder-native nozzle by name. Prusa's listing for the 0.6 mm brass CHT version describes exactly that: a standalone part. Watch the product name before checkout: 'Nextruder Hotend brass High Flow - 0.60 mm' is a full hotend assembly, not a nozzle by itself - a different part from 'Prusa Nozzle brass CHT - 0.6 mm,' which is the nozzle alone. If you specifically want a V6-thread nozzle instead - you already own one, or you want a material Prusa doesn't sell in the Nextruder line - add the Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter to the order; Prusa's own listing for the adapter states the nozzle is sold separately.
| Thread | Materials Prusa names | Diameters currently listed |
|---|---|---|
| E3D V6 - native on MK3-series/MK2-series/MINI, or via the adapter on Nextruder machines | Brass, hardened steel, Nozzle X (WS2-coated), Olsson Ruby | 0.25, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 mm |
| Nextruder-native | Brass, brass CHT (high-flow), ObXidian (hardened steel, coated), DiamondBack | 0.25-0.8 mm across the nozzle and hotend listings |
Olsson Ruby appears on Prusa's own compatibility article as a V6-thread material, but as of this writing neither of Prusa's own nozzle shop categories listed an Olsson Ruby product. Buying one means going to a different seller; this page doesn't name one.
The thread size, if you're checking a part you already own
Prusa's compatibility article doesn't publish a thread figure for the V6 nozzle, so don't repeat 'M6' from memory without a source. E3D, which designed the V6 hotend, states it on its own product page: 'M6 thread compatible with a wide range of printers.' That's the number to check a loose or third-party nozzle against if you're not sure it's a V6-thread part at all. Prusa doesn't publish an equivalent thread figure for the Nextruder mount; it's a different interface, which is why the adapter is a separate part rather than the two nozzle families simply interchanging.
What Prusa doesn't say: the adapter's temperature and flow rating
One thing genuinely isn't published anywhere Prusa writes about this adapter: whether it changes the maximum temperature or flow rate you get, compared with a Nextruder-native nozzle. The adapter's own product page and Prusa's installation guide for it cover compatible printers and installation steps, not a temperature or flow spec for the adapter itself. For reference, E3D's page for the V6 brass nozzle states a 300 C maximum for that nozzle, above the MK4S's own 290 C printer ceiling - but that figure rates the nozzle, not the adapter. If you're running a demanding filament near your printer's stated ceiling, don't assume the adapter performs identically to a native nozzle; ask Prusa support about your specific model before relying on it there.
If your exact model isn't named above
Every Prusa printer's own product page carries a technical specification table with an 'Extruder' row, the way the MK4S page does. If your model is newer than the ones named here, that row is the field to check: it will either say some version of 'Nextruder' - putting you in the adapter-or-native-nozzle situation above - or name the E3D V6 hotend directly, putting you in the direct-fit group. Go by that row, not by the printer's price tier or release year.

What this page does not tell you
- Prusa's own shop listings can change; confirm the exact SKU and compatible-printer list on the linked product page before ordering.
- Olsson Ruby is named on Prusa's compatibility article as a V6-thread-compatible material, but neither of Prusa's own nozzle shop categories listed an Olsson Ruby product as of the access date; a reader who wants one would be buying from a different seller.
- A 1.0 mm nozzle diameter is not confirmed on any Prusa page opened for this article; the diameters stated here (0.25-0.8 mm) reflect what Prusa's own listings currently show.
- Whether the Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter matches a native Nextruder nozzle's maximum temperature and flow rate exactly is not published by Prusa; this page states that gap rather than filling it.
- Prusa's installation guide for the Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter also names 'Signature Oak' - a limited-edition Nextruder printer Prusa announced in October 2025 - among the printers the adapter fits. It isn't broken out separately on this page; a Signature Oak owner should follow the Nextruder guidance given here and confirm the Extruder row on that printer's own specification page.
